About

Welcome to Gamma Beta Rising. The purpose of this site is to provide information to alumni all across the world about the Gamma Beta Chapter, and especially, about the efforts to Rebuild the Utah Chapter of Beta Theta Pi and to renovate its chapter house.

The Eccles Challenge

On May 4, 2011, Spencer F. Eccles sponsored a Utah Beta dinner to announce the Gamma Beta Rising Campaign–the largest gathering in the history of Gamma Beta. At the event, Spence and his son, Spencer P. Eccles, jointly and generously issued a challenge grant of $250,000 toward our $1.55 million campaign.

This challenge provides $1 for every $2 contributed up to $750,000 from date of the dinner on. Spence and Spence made this pledge to stimulate support for the re-colonization effort and to help bring our carefully studied renovation plans and dreams to a successful conclusion. The men of Gamma Beta of Beta Theta Pi are grateful and indebted to the Eccles for their loyalty and unyielding support now and over many decades in the past.

“The Restored Gamma Beta Chapter,” the inspirational speech delivered to Gamma Beta alumni by Spencer F. Eccles, #863, at Rice-Eccles Stadium on May 4, 2011 follows. The speech is in Spence’s own hand with his trademark and inimitable green ink and demonstrates his unparalleled dedication to Beta Theta Pi.
